Our school is linked with The King's Village in Northern Ghana.

Only 1 in 20 adults in Northern Ghana can read and write. At our school we sponsor a child called Nashiratu and the money that we raise helps to fund her education. Nashiratu is 6 years old and she is one of triplets. She is in Class Basic 1 at The King's Village school. Nashiratu lives in the village of Wuba and she likes playing.

Every week in Collective Worship we think about Nashiratu, her family and The King's Village school in Ghana. We have also learnt about where Ghana is in the world and what the different colours of the Ghanian flag mean. We have compared schools, houses and food and even completed homework on this.

We keep in regular contact with the school through photographs, letters and videos. Here is this academic year's news.

October 2024

Wise Owls wrote letters to pupils at the school. They received responses from The King's Village in which they enjoyed finding out what each pupil's favourite subject is, what they like to do and who is in their family. Wise Owls also sent Nashiratu a card and gift for her.

A group of teachers visited The King's Village to take out reading books for the pupils at the school. Here are a few photographs of guided reading sessions.

January 2025

In Collective Worship we have been learning a song that the children of The King's Village school sing which is called 'My God is Good'. Click on the videos below to hear the songs sung by The King's Village and our school.

March 2025

We received this email from The King's Village.

We sent The King's Village a video of our school singing 'My God is Good'. They sent the following video back to us of them listening to our school singing - how amazing!

The also sent us some videos of the songs they like to sing which we have shared in Collective Worship.

Fundraising

Our first fundraising event was a Rucksack Competition which involved designing a rucksack suitable for a pupil at The King's Village. Each child that entered the competition also had to say why it is important to have an education. We raised an amazing £67 for The King's Village and all the entries were fantastic. Our Chair of Governors chose the best design in each class and they each won a Ghana keyring. He also picked out the overall winner who won a rucksack that came all the way from Ghana. Well done to everybody that entered the competition. The designs were amazing.
