Online Safety Officers
"The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves, but a fool’s heart blurts out folly." — Proverbs 12:23
Autumn 25
The Wise Owl Online Safety Parliament members asked Mr. Hardisty a series of questions about his role in keeping everyone safe online. They asked why online safety is important in his job, whether he has any top tips for staying safe online, and how he works with other schools in our Multi Academy Trust to ensure everyone stays protected. Other questions included whether he knows any good online safety games, if his job is difficult or stressful, and why his work is important to him. The students were also curious about how to tell if news is fake, how to know if they’re talking to a human or a robot online, how to identify trustworthy websites, and whether Mr. Hardisty is in charge of the school’s firewall.
They then had a discussion about how he helps keep all the schools in the MAT safe when using the internet. See the picture below of their meeting.
25/26 - To start our parliament this year, we reminded children of our SMART rules. We also collected a question list for Mr Hardisty for our yearly meeting about online safety at a trust level. See our questions below. Our meeting is next week and we will feed back after the meeting.
Why is online safety important in your job?
Do you have any top tips for staying safe online?
How do you work with the other schools in our multi academy trust to make sure everyone keeps safe,
Do you know any good online safety games?
Is your job difficult?
Is it stressful making sure everyone is safe online?
Why is your job important to you?
How do we know what news is fake or not?
How do you know if you’re talking to a human or a robot online?
How do you know what websites to trust?
Are you in charge of the schools firewall?
In this week's parliament, we made some exciting decisions as a school!
The children suggested the idea of having 'Digital Guardians' in Y6 - These children will be a child to speak to if any other children has any concerns about their safety online - Feeding their issues back to Mr Edwards who can help further.
The Digital Guardians will also be responsible for creating a blog page on the school website will relevant, up-to-date information about online safety.
We also explained that we have arranged a meeting with Mr Hardisty who is the IT manager for the SNMAT - The children created a list of some fantastic questions to ask him during our interview with hi next week. Some of the questions were:
- How do you make sure kids are safe when online in all of your schools?
- Can you see what we all search and stuff when we are on the computers?
- Are you why we have that pink screen that sometimes pops up on some websites?
Once we have had the interview, some quotes and snippets will be added below with some of Mr Hardisty's responses to our childrens' questions.
